> The sticker under the rear hatch of my '89 gives warnings in five > languages about using correct tires, wheels, hardware. The only line > in boldface says "Fit wheels [sic] fasteners without lubricant." My 65 Beetle's wheelbolts would seize (not rust) after tightening (not overtightening). To the extent that on one occasion the generic Canadian-made crossbrace that I was using twisted so that the numbers stamped into one of the shafts started on one side and finished on the other! I then used CopperKote on the faces and never had the problem again, nor any loosening. CopperKote is wunnerful stuff... use it on every thread on your vehicle; you won't regret it. No more seized or rusted-on items. Oh, it's a light grease with copper flakes... so don't eat it. -- Regards Andrew Grebneff Dunedin, New Zealand Fossil preparator Mollusc, Toyota & VW van fanatic |
