About ten years ago I was extensively questioned in the same manner by an attendant at an RV park in Las Vegas, Nevada (affiliated with a casino). Since they typically cater to giant RVs, I guess his questioning was understandable, but he was a bit of a bully about it - not nice. His main question was whether I had curtains (I had my 1987 Wolfsburg weekender so the curtains snap in and do not stay up all the time). My dad was meeting me the next morning in my parents' 1973 full Westfalia and he was not amused with the attendant's attitude toward me. My dad did not get the same treatment, either, so possibly the guy didn't like single females in VW busses, or just the fact the curtains didn't show - who knows.

I recently stayed in Casa de Fruta near Hollister, California, using our side tent, and was not questioned in this way at all.
