Everyone is absolutely correct that CV joint specific grease must be used.
I am pretty sure that all of these contain the nasty black molybdenum
disulfide for extreme pressure lubrication.  I posted a note to the Vanagon
list a while back with my positive experiences with Valvoline DuraBlend EP
CV joint grease:

I believe the synthetic CV joint greases perform better than the
conventional CV joint greases.

Just my opinion.  I'll soon be repacking the CV joints on my '71 BMW 2800cs.
 I am pretty sure these are the original CV joints.
