I won't say I've gotten resistance as much as cluelessness.  I can see where if I said "camper van" someone might imagine a vagrant or worse, but it's gotten to the point where I'm tempted to say, "Just give me a tent site," but those are sometimes hike-in spaces that would not work.  Jeez, I just want a place to sleep and hang out with the dog.
 
I guess it's a case of cultural awaremess.  I happened to look at a Best Buy ad for CDs yesterday and did not recognize a single title or artist on the whole page of names so that shows what I know.  Time to put me out to pasture.  In my VW Camper.

I've gotten a little resistance from RV parks in the San Francisco
Bay Area to allowing my '84 Westy overnight.  Several parks have
asked, "Is that a self-contained RV?"  What they mean is: Does it
have a toilet?  Even parks with showers have been hesitant to let me in.

In the end, they have allowed me in, saying they'll break or bend the rules.

I don't have much experience, but I assume this happens more often at
RV parks that cater primarily to long-term mobile home tenants.  In
the Bay Area, it seems that's all there is.  I haven't yet found a
state park or RV-oriented park that's close to the peninsula or the east bay.

Is this resistance common in other areas?
