No one has mentioned the Camp Ground Directory from Woodall's. It is
a Complete on the Road For the RV Enthusiast.
We have the Eastern Directory and it is loaded with 1000s of
Campgrounds with listings of all the things you may or maynot want in
your camp ground. I prefer Electric in my site, But can do with out.
Also Like access to fresh water if possible. Showers a plus if more
then a few days out. ( Wife and kids don't like Gamey Dad)
We Go on Weekend camp trips and full on 2 weeks runs. We drive till
we want to find a place to crash. Pull out the Woodalls and call
places not far from where we want to call it a night on the cell.
Stop, Pay, Set up, and Snooze.
We get all sorts of looks at the Big Class A camp grounds with my Gas
Pusher VW RV (85 westi) they can not believe we can sleep 4 and want
to know if they are still made and all that. But I live in the rust
belt of michigan so, allot of old metal is gone. On a good day I
might see 1 other VW van, Bus, Whatever, Most of the time it is once a week.
We also took a map and made a circle around our house 10, 20 and 40
miles out. Made a list of ALL campgrounds in that zone. We have been
working on that for 4 years for weekend trips. I tell you there are
some GREAT places Local I would never know were there without the
book. Some campgrounds are Total Crap and they get the Black X and
some are Marked in Red where the kids had a great time and the
grounds were 2nd to none. I have to go where the kids are safe to run
and Clean. Some have not been that good.
As long as you go Camping I dont think it matters where. Just having
fun with Family and Doing stuff in general outdoors is all that really matters.
