Hi Joe, for parts............you just gradually learn where to buy quality parts at good prices online. Not for something like an oil filter , but for something like a back up light switch, there are lots of places where you are buying parts from very vanagon-familiar people.

This group can help you regarding vendors. Bus Depot is a popular one. I like Van Cafe on the west coast myself. Many parts I get through a wholesale parts supply place, and sometimes I sell parts to vanagon owners myself.

on the oil pressure - connecting a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see what the oil pressure *really* is would be the right thing to do, even temporarily connect one. I keep on in the shop just for that - finding out what the real OP is when the warning light is on faintly. Since oil pressure switches are quiet inexpensive, you could just buy a correct new one and try it - and see if that eliminates your symptom there, but you still won't really know what the oil pressure is, which would be a very good thing to know. Hopefully it's not a 'real engine problem.'

when you wrote that the symptom was worse with fresh 20W50 in it, my first thought was .............maybe it had straight 50W in it anyway ! or 50W with two cans of STP to keep the oil light off on the highway - something like that. I hope it's not that.

I do have good anti-sway bar end links for sale, for early vanagons. They have been known to break, but not real commonly. I've never had one break on any of my vans, but I have seen it happen a couple of times. Scott www.turbovans.com
