My preferred camping locations are where I'm out of sound and sight of other humans. The camper is my refugee from the million or so people that surround me otherwise. My chance to sleep with an open window without earplugs, yet not be woken by the roar of a mufflerless truck at 2am. Or the slamming of car doors. Or the helicopters that for some reason like to fly over my house. Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer spots where one can legally camp in solitude. Park and public land administrations like to pack us together in organized campgrounds. (Even though there is so much space in western Canada) But while some campgrounds are pretty nice and good (and some outright awful), none match the solitude and serenity of some of the magical spots that I've found in the wild.
