Hi,
you are very right to expect that they should inform you the condition and
age of the part they put on.
New is new, anything else is 'good used.'
if they only did those 3 things........seems like 300 claims is pretty high.
If they claimed the fixed running issues ......and they did not at least
check throttle switch function and adjustment......
that's a bit flakey I'll have to say, especially for what you paid.
It only takes minutes if things are not worn out, as you probably learned
doing it yourself.
I doubt I'd be going to that shop again.
If this is the whole story .........I think they owe you a deluxe oil
change, a car wash, and apology, and 50 bucks back - something like that.
OR.......credit toward future work, if you feel that you can trust them
again.
I'd say it was way, way more favorable for them than for you , by a 70/30
split almost.
If that's the whole and complete story.

Subject: Digitfant Flu
Van has had the flu since last summer and only now tracking down the last of
it*.
Took the van to the local Vanagon experts [ a 45 min drive from here] 3
weeks ago
Garage reported *all fixed* and I picked up van. Van was running better[?]
but
they only managed/ bother to fix one of the problems by replacing a flaky
idle stabilizer, adjusting timing and CO. $300+
So when i open up the engine compartment this week - I spot the *new* idle
stabilizer
which clearly older than the one broken one they pulled out! [ all rusty ]
Am I wrong to expect the garage to inform me that they put in a [ $130+]
used part?
*Since then - I am managed to track down/ fix the AFM vanagon syndrome and
and a TPS WAY out of adjustment... THANK YOU VANAGON ARCHIVES
and van is getting better by the day.
