Maybe by summer 2010 the road from Goose Bay to Cartwright will be completed? Then that ferry becomes a non-issue....but will the highway be finished? from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Labrador_Highway Phase III, Cartwright Junction to Happy Valley-Goose Bay Phase III is a 250 km section currently under construction for $100 million (CAD) south of Lake Melville/Hamilton Inlet to connect Cartwright Junction (87 km south of Cartwright) with Happy Valley-Goose Bay. A ferry service currently connects Cartwright with Happy Valley-Goose Bay, which will be removed when the highway is completed, planned for mid-December 2009. No black flies in mid-late August when we did Labrador in 2006. http://www.pauldottrip.com/2006/labwest/labwest.html Amazingly friendly people. Beautiful scenery, plenty of places to camp for free and as Joy says, the coffee sucks, unless you like Tim Hortons... Would go back in 2010 if we still lived in the east...but it's quite a drive from SF to NFLD. -paul
