If your point is to get decent vehicles into the hands of folks who can't otherwise afford them, then most of the clunkers turned in would be a liability, not a benefit to those folks. A good used car for them, yes, but not one that only gets 17 or less mpg combined city/highway (meaning less city), and not expensive to maintain vehicles like vanagons. An old Corolla, or Civic, yes. But those don't qualify for the clunker program. Dave Mc
