sure would be nice if that was it all right, and it's likely his needs adjustment or replacement ........ but it's not my experience that mileage is so desperately bad if the switch does not tell the ecu that it's at idle. 'cause I find 'em not making contact at idle all the time, and it's nothing like 10 mpg as a result. though I don't doubt your experience and repair with good result. if you think the switch is expensive, price out a throttle body. I only did once, for a 1.9, about 8 years ago. The dealer list price was obscene , something like 700 some dollars. I was ready to put one on a customer's van if it was say, 250 .........but for near thrice that ........no thanks ! :- ) by sheer luck ( and buying used dead vans ) I am driving a 2.1 in an 85 Adventurewagon with 2.1 intake and exhaust systems....... and it appears to have an absolutely new throttle body and switch.
