Subject: Re: Pop-Top Repainting Problem

I would be concerned that the texture was filled in with the new paint.

I painted mine with Interlux boat paint as many have done before, however, I found that high gloss Interlux standard finish was much like a washing machine or dryer, and not at all similar to what I had originally. What I had was almost flat white, and I liked it, and I wanted it back. However, it was too late...I added two quarts of Interlux gloss reducer to the naturally glossy gallon of boat paint and got something I could live with. It was slightly glossy, still, but my biggest concern was the thickness of this new paint; it virtually eliminated the texture. I sprayed an orange peel finish and got a good texture; and that texture, gloss, and basic finish has survived just fine for three years.

Tan sounds ok to me, but it is not good at all if you don't like it.I'd say that if you and the painter had an agreement of the final finish and he did not deliver it, go ahead and complain.

Go to thesamba or some similar site and check for vanagon tops and see how they compare with yours.

Oh yeah,I almost forgot! I sell stainless steel fasteners for that top. I got some right now on ebay. Go there and you can see my Interlux top w/ 50% gloss reduction in the ebay sales ad I placed.Look close and you can see the orange peel effect.
