if all you need to do is protect some exposed wire ( and it would be better to keep an original wire in one piece, rather than splice on to it ) ...... what works great is Liquid Electrical Tape.,

it's a small can of brush-on vinyl..............comes in black or red. Dab some of that on there..........that wire is protected for a long, long time.

Regular black electrical tape never really makes a very good repair ....... not for a small wire or two. It' gets gummy and loose after a while, oil eats it etc. Where something big needs to be wrapped ............like a whole wire harness say .......then black electrical tape seems to work pretty well. I often put a wire tie over the very end wrap to keep it from coming undone.

check out Liquid Electrical Tape - it's perfect for your situation here. clean the wires of oil n' stuff first, like with carb cleaner say .......so you have nice clean dry wires to put the stuff on. Scott www.turbovans.com
