Any grease will attract dirt. They expected you to use greese, hence the boots (which are missing on lots of vans). I have fallen in love with CV join grease, as that stuff is INCREDIBLY sticky. Anyone who's ever repacked their CV's knows how incredibly adhesive this stuff is! Alas, my shift rod bushings are packed with synthetic Moly grease, and I coat the shaft every year once it starts to get noticeable.....then its back to shifting like butter.

They could have definately designed that better, but I feel the occasional greasing as a maintenance item makes it all drive so much more happily.
