Hi, yes, the tach single comes from terminal 1 on the coil. if there is a green wire already there ( later vans usually ) - it's for the tach.

fwiw - 'history' I guess you could call it. in the days of points, the negative terminal ( terminal 1 on VW's ) went to the points wire. It's where you'd measure dwell with a dwell meter on a points car. And as soon as there were electric, or electronic tachs.........that's where they got their tach single from. Starting in the 50's even. In electronic igntion ......like we use on Vanagons .........that's where they get they tach signal- the 'negative' or 1 on the coil.
