I made careful note of how mine was when I first pulled the engine, and the face of the bearing was at the edge of the chamfer, about 1mm back from the base if I recall. Probably doesn't matter, and don't know if it was that way from the factory but it makes sense. I would not drive it home for fear of crushing/distorting it.
