Hi,
yes, I've dealt with that exact thing.
and ..........that connection being rusted can keep the transmission from
shifting up properly, in my experience.
I'd do just what you are doing - everything you can to un-rust that
connection.
If you can get the lever off the trans ..........so much the better.
I haven't tried removing one myself.
in any case......get that lever and throttle cable separated.
the worst that could happen is .........the ball breaks off the lever, and
the ball is stuck in the throttle cable.
Solution to that is a new throttle cable,
and .........repair or replace that lever.
I keep a collection of throttle parts from all kinds of
engines.........whatever I find in junk yards. So when I do need to make
some custom throttle set up for some engine conversion or a repair like you
might need, I have parts to work with. So I can fabricate something that
will get a ball back on that lever.
I'd see if the lever comes off the trans , for a first step.
You could try heat .......like small intense flame,
but 'up in there' that's not too practical - things are so tight in that
area.
If it helps, it's way easy to lower the front of the trans for more access.
it's just metal parts fortunately, and they are very, very repairable
ultimately.
you might call German Transaxle in Bend OR......
tell them I sent you, Scott Foss, Turbovans.......
and ask them if they have a good used lever.
