Allan (although I'd love to sell you the diesel) none at all, problems that is, not mileage related at least. A buddy of mine flies a Long-EZ behind a 2.2 Subie, did the conversion in about '96. Before he switched from Honda power to the 2.2 we took apart 2 blocks with over 300k on them and they all looked brand spanking new. They were a lot younger at the time, but with those miles. I'd guess that of course plastic bits would fail with age, and of course needs a timing belt, but unlike the 2.5s those early Legacy mills are simply incredible reliability wise. And personally I feel more than enough power for a vanagon conversion. And damn cheap to, last time I converted a syncro I bought 2 under 100k mile, full cars in MD for $1100, sold the trannies and other parts for more than I paid, and that was in like 2001. John

There's supposedly an EJ22 engine near me with 84,000 miles on it. What sort of issues (if any) would I expect to deal with at that mileage, assuming it was maintained with "normal" care? |
