Yes. Based on info gleaned from at least one thread over on thesamba.com I'm sure there's also info in the vanagon archives. Here's a pic of the part I used. Not certain if a VW PN but sure looks like it. Not cheap either IIRC. $2x Cnd. And in reviewing some notes made in other picasaweb pics of filter upgrade, the general observation made after a little testing is that the cavitation noise really wasn't reduced that much. So..... Pretty sure the issue lies in the small ID of outlet and isn't resolved by deleting the square pre pump filter. Neil.
