I gave up trying to get EKTA to run and use vagcat.com instead. Its
the whole EKTA for a bunch of VW/Audi vehicles. You have to sign up
but it way easier to use and can be accessed anywhere you have web
access.

I highly recommend dumping the OEM rattlebox and getting an
aftermarket version. I put one in 6 years ago and love it. No rattles,
no leaks and you can remove it to both clean it and get access to your
luggage rack without putting the pop top up. Here's some pics of mine: http://vickersdesign.com/vanagon/sunroof_all.jpg
which is NLA but a friend found one here:http://
www.sunroofdoctor.com/ Its the Newport 1828 model that you want.

I have an 87 as well. That door weatherstrip and window channel system
is outdated and difficult to find parts for so I recommend getting the
new (88-91) system from Van Cafe. Easy to install and seals very well: http://tinyurl.com/yjg8wp3
Hope that helps,
