here's great upgrade- the later bigger aerodynamic outside mirrors. They don't blow around like the early ones do, and even without the power adjust feature, they are a great upgrade.

and you must mention 15 inch wheels ( or 16's ) . If I had to pick One Thing ...........that will make a vanagon better .......... 15 inch wheels with appropriate tires. I'm running 205/65 R 15 C Michelin Agilles tires .......and man, they drive as good as they cost, which is almost 150 bucks each ...... but they totally transform the van's directional satiability and cornering. !4 inch wheels and tires feel quite mushy in comparison.

I recommend 'real' 15 inch vanagon wheels too, not something adapted with spacers etc. 'Real' vanagon 15 inch wheels. I like 'em with Heavy Duty Bilstein shocks, and I'd like to try the Koni's sometime.

2.1 liter is a nice upgrade. So are e-code Cibie lights. If you have an 84 or older a newer handbrake is better. The 86 and newer front brakes are supposed to better than earlier iterations, but you'll need uprights, hubs, rotors, calipers. Some say the cast iron front control arms make it ride like a Cadillac and sting like a Beemer.(Something about storing kinetic energy, as one fellow tried to explain ;-) and I still laugh at that). Tach is nice.
