'Charging fine' would have to be the correct measured voltage at the battery... It's a Westy with the relay under the drivers seat for the refrigerator/camping equip? This relay is in the charging light system, the 'red light on' is a common (Westy) problem with Subaru engine conversions. I'd unplug the relay and see if it is the 'red light on' problem.
