Dear Mr. Squirrel,
Most of my camping is done in NC mountains, where you pretty much expect to
encounter rain. To me a day of rain in the Westy is a nice break as you
tend to focus inward and relax. A day of rain in the tent means chasing
leaks, rearranging backpacks and hoping that you didn't pitch in a
depression. (Well, you asked :-))
I've found that an RV outdoor mat works well in the wet, damp, or sandy
situations. Its construction allows water to drain through and fine sand to
fall to the bottom. It also cleans your shoes well, as an added bonus.
This helps to keep inside of your Westy, or tent, less messy. You place
this mat just outside the entry. I imagine if you were to use a tent it
would work well inside too as it would keep your gear above whatever water
has gathered on the floor.
