Interesting. Another reason I'm glad I put a post pump filter in.

John.

On my '81 (also has the smaller outlet on tank), the main reason I omitted the square filter and "upgraded" to a "can" filter post pump was to see if it would quell the intermittent fuel pump noise. Since pump is pretty new, and tank et al is too, I am almost certain the noise is due to pump cavitation. FWIW, in cooler climes this "upgrade" seemed to help reduce the noise. But recently, while traveling in hotter climes, the fuel pump was pretty noisy at idle when engine up to temp, and restarted. And with all the wind noise and Steely Dan blaring away, couldn't hear if pump noisy while driving. I would suspect it was at least intermittently noisy. In colder weather, it seems quieter overall though.

Just my experiences so far.
