Camping in the rain can be pleasant if you don't have kids along who will go stir-crazy after 5 minutes in the camper. Otherwise I find it to be a generally miserable experience that I try to avoid.

There's also no avoiding the mud, really. About the best you can do is have an awning over the door, keep a doormat outside, and remove your shoes before going into the camper.
