I had a bus once that had the letter "R" on the orange band at the bottom of the fuel gauge, after having the bus for a little while I figured "R" was German for walk. On my current '84 (Westy) I replaced the tank and figure that 16 gallons at 20 mpg (Subie 2.2) means I have to gas up every 300 miles no matter what the gauge says. Have not had to walk with this one yet.
