I have the grill inserts from Frank, they work great. I can't find them on his site right now, they have been available off an on over the years.

Another solution I've seen suggested is this. Get a length of brass tubing just a little bigger ID than the parts of the grill that currently end and create the 'spill hole'. Cut sections of the tubing a couple of inches longer than the gap. Slide onto the open end of the grill piece until it clears the other side then slide back so it fits over both pieces. Do the same for the other part. This will require a little careful bending/shaping of one of the pieces so that it passes under the other. If I were trying this I'd head for the local hobby shop, they usually have an assortment of thin wall brass tubing.
