Dave,

You can view the article on how to install these wheels onto a Vanagon by going to my webpage at:

www.vanagoncafe.com

Go to the site map and select the How-To Page. I will eventually add other pages there that used to be on my old AOL site. You can also go direct to the page at:

There are other ways to fit those wheels on. The non-airbag Audi wheels will fit in the same manner as well. These wheels are machined to fit over a smaller conical shaft so they sit about 3/8" above the ideal position. That leaves a gap which keeps the turnsignals from self cancelling. You can either modify the column the way Yoshi describes in the article, or you can have the steering wheel machined to fit as others have suggested. There is another simpler solution. The lock assembly is held in place by a pair of Allen bolts. Loosen those up and you will find that there is enough upward adjustment so an unmodified wheel can fit.

Once you have the wheel on, you will find some portions of the speedo and tach are difficult to see. I opted for a Momo wheel instead. Adapters are still available (mom p/n 8012). You can then add steering wheel spacers to bring it closer to you thereby afford a better view of the instrument cluster even with the smaller wheel.
