All this charcoal canister talk begs a question from the creator of FrankenVanagonJetta. My air cooled Westy is now Jetta powered. This is how I connected the top of the charcoal canister: expansion tank valve hoses to small top pipe. larger top pipe to Jetta purge valve. I'm sure this is correct. But.... During the engine swap process, I came to understand that I should allow the bottom hose on canister to vent to the atmosphere. Bentley shows air cooled, Digijet, and Digifant, charcoal canister bottom hose connecting to the air cleaner. Anyone know if the charcoal canister bottom hose on my VanaJetta should be connected to the air cleaner? Since the air cleaner is sucking on this hose, is that crucial to the charcoal canister operation? Jetta Bentley description of the EVAP system doesn't mention the bottom connection of the charcoal canister, yet the canister has one. Thanks, Neil.
