Dunno about the aircooled models, but I had this problem on my 85 GL and
also on my 88 GL. A fuel hose/seal kit from one of our list vendors in
each case solved the problem. If you have any kind of leaking then it's
time to replace all of that hose and sutuff related to the fuel tank.
Don't mess around. Any kind of fuel leaking on a vanagon - front or back
- is serious business. And if your front hosery is leaking - better
check the rear hosery. It's prol'ly rotting out as well and that is a
sure recipe for a fire.
Droppng the fuel tank and installing the new vent hoses, etc, is not
that big of a deal. Just be sure you run the gas out before you start.
