those things were common on "cool" cars in the early fifties. My brother had a mercury two door "hard top" with them. Same crowd that liked to have a steering knob had them, generally. Also, and this would have been a real bummer for aerodynamics, an external sunshade above the wind screen was popular, especially on Mercury and Ford cars. Dave Mc
