Hi, kind of normal, have no worry unless they are deform/melted.

The reason is simply heat! With time, all those "fuel flooding" and back fire cause this, heat gos back into the intake plenum. Intake valves not seating properly can also cause that kind of problem, hot gas make their way back up on deceleration / cold start... I also blame poor sealing of the injector tip , that little O-ring.

Most, not to say all vanagon engine don't have a properly sealed FI system. If the injectors are the faulty one, overnight a certain amount of fuel flood the combustion chamber, so in the morning that extra fuel need to burn someways.

In your case, i'll bet you that this injector is not sealing/closing properly. A pressure test could confirm that. http://www.benplace.com/fi_test.htm
