iirc, lanolin is essentially cholesterol secreted by sheep. One instance where cholesterol is useful. Some sailors use it on rigging turnbuckle threads and other vital hardware to prevent corrosion and seizing. Anhydrous lanolin is the stiff stuff with no water emulsified in it. I am not a big fan of Stoddard solvent, benzene etc. Gasoline is bad enough.
