If my understanding of the operation of the Idle Stabilizer control unit is correct, that unit is in control of the idle only when the throttle position switch under the throttle body indicates a closed throttle. The engine continues to operate at high RPMs even when the throttle linkage is moved so as to cause the switch to tell the Idle Stabilizer Control unit that the engine is no longer at idle. After the throttle is engaged control of the engine switches to the ECU. If this is not correct I would appreciate anyone who could help me understand the process better. I have been doing some reading in the Bentley manual as well as referencing the information available online and this is a good digest of how I think the system works. The engine speed remains high even when the throttle is slightly engaged, I may not have made this clear in my first post. I was a little tired when I wrote it. Thanks, Rico

Replaced Idle Stabilizer Control Unit. Problem solved. (No more blinking temp light either.) Thanks to Zoltan for helping me with this!
