Which helps to answer my question: Mellow Yellow was last smogged in Cali in 2008 and passed handily.

I reckon I'm gonna pass on replacing the cat when I get the muffler done. MW presently has 80,000 miles on it and it had 68,000 miles on it when I got it in 2004. At this rate it will be some time before the cat needs replacing. Save myself $100 to $160 (depending on vendor).
