Rod:

I generated a lot of messages in February '09 about gas tanks. I got a new one from Bus Depot and one of the vent tubes was brazed after it had been bent, so had a leak. http://jones.colorado.edu/VW/BadTank.jpg Here's what it should have looked like http://jones.colorado.edu/VW/GoodTank.jpg

I talked with the folks at Bus Depot and they looked through their inventory and found a whole bunch were defective as mine. Then they found a good one and sent it to me.

All these tanks have the same stampings on them and the boxes indicate Taiwan. Other vendors have the same tanks. I think they are the only tanks available.

Check the messages in 2/09. The Bus Depot made good; I suspect other vendors would, too. If I were ordering a tank now, I'd call and discuss the defect and make sure they were not inadvertently shipping a bad one--any vendor.

My tank was for an '81, but I think BudDepot said both sizes (of fill holes) had the problem, so it appears a whole series of tanks came with the problem.

Richard
