If you deal with me, I can save you the call.  From our experience this
issue was isolated to a single shipment. We sent them back and the next
batch was fine again. So no worries if you're ordering from us. (Not that
something else couldn't come up someday, but it hasn't before or since,
other than the rare isolated defect that can occur with any product.)
Actually even if we hadn't sent them all back, any gas tanks from February
would be long gone by now. Your risk is much higher if you deal with a
vendor that does not specialize in Vanagons (or at least VW's).  Multi-make
suppliers rarely sell a Vanagon gas tank, so it's entirely possible that six
month old Vanagon tanks would still be on their shelves.
