Subject: Add WBX Temp Gauge/Coolant Low LED
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

For any of you air heads converting to water cooled, adding a coolant low warning system isn't too hard. I have to test this thoroughly, but it seems to work fine. I used the 1.9 WBX schematic. Some pics/text:

Not shown: Jetta coolant expansion bottle. Mine has two probes in it. I ran a wire from one probe forward to dash, the other is grounded in engine bay. When coolant gets below these probes, the connection to ground is broken and the coolant low control module does its' thing.

Of note, I have what I assume is an '80 cluster. It has the 3 holes for the WBX gauge, but they are in a row. Not a triangle as shown in my pic. Not sure what goes there.

In hindsight, would've been MUCH easier to find a cluster with a clock (I wanted to keep the analogue clock). But..... I have an '85 cluster I wanted to rebuild/add tach/mount existing dynamic oil pressure unit to, so thought borrowing the WBX gauge from it would make things simpler. Ha!

And no laughing at my new clock face! <grin> Again, in hindsight, marking the hours with simple straight lines of sticky white whatever would have looked much nicer. I used the original clock face as a template. Clown-like dots done with wood dowel and paint.

Neil.
