"The" Mount Washington is in New Hampshire, and is the home of the famous
cog railway.  Cogs are required because the gradient is so steep that the
normal steel wheel to steel track would not provide enough grip to climb (or
descend) the grade.

Not to disparage your Mt Washington, of course.
