Subject: WTB New-style E-brake lever...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Need one that actually works--- for my 84 and I understand the newer (younger) vanagons have an improved set-up that one can retrofit onto the older style. I have to get out and open a stock gate, sometimes, to get home, while stopped on a 4-5% sloping drive. My current one, if I pull it on *really really hard* just barely holds my van in place...I am always like...pull it on, stick the van into neutral and take my foot off the clutch,, then off the brake...the van rolls back a little so I tap the brake again and it stops...then I slip out and run up to the gate, glancing over my shoulder, expecting to see my van rolling backwards'' So far, that has not happened...but it easily could do...When I'm feeling insecure, I just shut off the motor and leave it in gear, with the brake pulled on as hard as I can..but that seems silly when I could make the parking brake work properly. I've tried looking and posting on the Samba without results..there are over 50 pages of Vanagon parts FS listed there and no viable search method that I have found. Don Hanson
