Hi all.

I resealed a new tank during this year. Worked fine.

Normally I put in ~ $25 worth of gas at a time. (old habits die hard). Lately, at different pumps, I'd fill tank and the pump wouldn't shut off until fuel really close to top of filler pipe.

That seemed strange to me. Then, I noticed that old gas smell. Hadn't noticed this before when filling tank.

This connection at cross over tube:

and other end at expansion tank, show signs of fuel weeping (stains) when tank filled near top of filler pipe.

Is this line actually a fuel expansion line, or purely for venting vapour?

Is it possible the tank is not venting right and getting pressurized causing fuel to seep?

(in hindsight I should have used FI clamps for all hose connections)

This was an air cooled Vanagon. I removed this plastic ducting (looking up) http://tinyurl.com/yhb6bj3 at sill between cab and rear. With home made cover off, I have *limited* access to the connection at cross-over tube at tank. (also handy for lubing that pesky shift bushing!)

The connection at expansion tank I can obviously get at.

Since I don't usually fill the tank, if I follow that as a "rule"....

Is it safe to leave these connections as-is?

Can anyone see a way I could put a FI hose clamp (or ?) on where line meets cross over tube w/o dropping the tank?
