yeah, that's sounds really careless to me ........doing it on a running
engine.
also .......
the width of the pulleys is a factor ......about how far the belt has to
move over to flip off.

If I remember right ............pretty sure this is correct, a bug generator
pulley is wide at the edge of the belt , not just a sharp edge that the belt
can slip over easily, like the pulleys on vanagons.
removing it with the engine running .....dangerous enough , as you'd worry
about the engine grabbing screwdriver and thrashing you with it.

Even worse would be going on, with the engine running.....
you'd have to position the belt just right, do the just right instantaneous
movement ...
you know .........one slip of  a finger could just rip one or two off in an
instant ......
changing your life forever.
not worth taking a chance on.
Not so risky  , if just turning the engine with the starter only. Or even by
hand sometimes.
