hi,

i have a jar of anhydrous lanolin in the shop. when diluted with mineral spirits and applied to metal it really does work as a rust inhibitor. i used it on galvanised shackles in a marine application, allowed the shackle to be unscrewed after a summer moorage.

the fluid film product range includes lanolin, i believe.

i haven't done side by side tests with linseed oil, but i go out on a limb and say lanolin works better. It really clings, and with my lanolin anyway, imparts a comforting sheep smell :)
