Chris, I have never owned a Westy. However, having owned an '85 GL an '86 L, and a '90 Carat I can tell you my personal preference is for the higher springs. The main reasons are 1. I just think the higher ground clearence looks cooler 2. Being on the non-skinny side I find it much easier to climb under the regular springs to do any repairs should then need to be done than I do the carat style. (for those times that jack stands and a reliable jack not available) Again this si just my personal preference.
