We've abandoned the large jug approach for extra ice.  We eat lots of Costco
(Meza)Hummus and the 30 oz. containers are great for supplemental ice.
Because of their tapered sides, the ice pops out relatively easily if you
don't want to take the containers along.  If you do take them, they stack
together when empty to conserve space and can be used to hold leftovers or
whatever.

Of course lots of other foods come in similar containers.
