Hey, Craig: I agree with you. My 19 year-old son has a '91 Volvo 740 with the turbo and it has run like a champ for the year and two months he has had it. It just passed 200,000 miles andnever failed to start even last winter when it was -14 degree below zero for a week. We have joked about putting one in a Vanagon, never thought somebody actually did it! It seems like the 230 block is too long for the Vanagon engine bay?
