A comment and a question: Regarding the replacement, yes it is a horrible knuckle-skinner the first time through when you're guessing. But own vanagons with power windows as long as I did (mine are manual at present) and you'll get the whole job down to 20 minutes or so. I have a detailed writeup in the archives. Is that true that the motors or shared among several VW models? I had heard they are not. But that is good news if you can find some late models motors because the worst part of the whole job definitely takes place when you buy the motor. I have a couple of bad ones that didn't stay in all that long. Has anybody done a writeup on refurbing them?
