Subject: cold running problem
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

A few weeks ago my van started missing, hesitating, and acting maybe starved for fuel. Sometimes the miss would go away after it warmed up.

For want of a better idea, I poured a can of Sea Foam injector cleaner into the gas. In a day or two it seemed to get better, but it still runs rough when it's cold. Now, however, it seems to run okay once it's warmed up.

I know when I go out to start it this a.m. in a chilly 47F southern California morning, it's going to run rough until a few miles down the road.

I have no idea what it might be, but since I don't have a local mechanic that I trust I'm reluctant to just turn it over to someone and say fix it.

I know it has a cracked head, but it's had that for a couple of years now. I'm not losing any coolant, no excess coolant pressure build up, no sign of anything unusual in the exhaust.

I'm hoping list members can offer some ideas as to what the problem might be.

Paticulars: '90 vanagon GL Westy AT, box stock, 214,000 miles on original engine.

TIA, Bob
