No, I was guessing by the look of them (and my brother's opinion). You sound like you've done a few more than I have! Ditto on the seals; for both the operation of the windows and the doorlocks, too. Oh, and also the warpy door panels!

Mike, have you confirmed this? I have parted out many VWs over the years (Jettas, Golfs, etc) and I have never seen a power window motor the same as the Vanagon. They look "similar" but they are different enough not to work and that is all that really matters.

Left and right motor are the same. Not sure why VW had two different part numbers for them. I have worked on and replaced so many of these

over the years it is not funny and I have power windows in both of my Vanagons I current drive every day (90 Carat and 89 Wolfy). I love the power windows on these vans so I have to keep them going. One option is to go with the aftermarket power window motor and regulator that we sell which about the same price as the stock motor. It is a brand new regulator and Bosch motor (different though). The regulator works the

same was as a manual crank window regulator works. I have these on my

van and if you install them correctly they work great. If you don't they stink and more folks than not install them improperly. The secret is to space the regulator and motor away from the door with 1" spacers. It seems as if they are made to be installed this way but they never come with the spacers. If you do this they will work well and leave plenty of room for you stock speaker. If you don't they will look twisted like someone forced them to mount where they aren't supposed to, and work slow. Just my experience with these. I have had zero luck trying to fix the old motors over the years. Usually you can free them up for a short time and then they will lock up on you again. I usually just replace them. I know they aren't cheap but they have lasted almost 20 years. The new ones will probably last just as long. Be sure your

window seals and in good shape so that they aren't getting wet every time it rains. That is what usually kills them.

Is there one out there? The VW part no is 251 959 801. > Best regards. > >
