Count me among the fans of the Honda Super Quiet generators. As much as I like them, though, I would not trade any of the limited interior storage for an on-board generator. They work very well as portable units.

Most people would do very well with an decent multiple battery setup and an inverter. Depending on your (unstated) requirements, you may be able to run from batteries for several days before running the engine to recharge. With two batteries, I rarely start the engine between runs to the store, etc, but my biggest power hog is a laptop computer.
